Running with Jazzy

Land Line Magazine staff writer Charlie Morasch traveled with his family to run with Jasmine Jordan Monday.

Jasmine, the daughter of OOIDA member Lee Jordan, is running across America, coast to coast, to raise money for the St. Christopher Fund. Above: Jasmine and Charlie pose with Charlie's daughter, Charis. The entire Morasch family - Charlie, wife Amy and children Charis and Eli - took the trip to Arkansas.
Charis ran 3/10 of a mile with Jasmine and Charlie, although Dad went a bit further - about 13 miles. He's not up to Jasmine's distances, but Charlie has run a marathon or two, as well as a number of smaller races.

Charlie and Jasmine pose with a Little Rock police officer. One of the stories Charlie related after returning to OOIDA headquarters involved an officer.
At one point, Charlie said, a car in the next lane was trying to pass, but kept dying. When the two runners passed a nearby officer who was helping them pass safely through the city, they informed him that the car in the left lane kept breaking down. The officer, without missing a beat, said, "Welcome to Arkansas."

It's the little touches that count

Top photo: As part of the Truckers for Troops care packages, staff members packed these - mats that can be used by soldiers to get the sand off their feet before they get into bed. The continual presence of sand in literally everything has been a big comfort issue for many of our troops stationed in Iraq especially.

Lower photo: This note was place in the care packages with the Sand Grabber Mats, so soldiers would know their intended function. The photo on the note is of OOIDA staffers Connie Beacraft and Nikki Johnson, who lead the packing effort. (photos by Sherry Murry)

She calls them all her boys ...

More from the celebration ...

Inside the Box

A quick look inside one of the care packages sent through OOIDA Truckers for Troops to members of our military. The items were selected with the help of soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who are now or have been serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, to ensure that the troops receive things that will either help or that will truly lighten their day.
