Packing Day
From left: OOIDA staffers JoAnn Vanderlinden, Kathy Vick, Connie Beacraft, Trina Husemann and Clarissa Kell-Holland pack care packages about to be sent to troops overseas. The contents of the care packages were paid for by truckers' donations to the Truckers for Troops Telethon. This year, truckers donated more than any previous year, and provided more than double the previous number of soldier's names and addresses, enabling the association to serve far more members of our military than ever. Big check for a big cause
OOIDA President and CEO Jim Johnston presents a very big check with a very big number to Sylvia Dodson, a longtime OOIDA staffer and supervisor of the Membership Department.
The amount, raised through truckers' donations during this year's OOIDA Truckers for Troops Telethon, is the largest total ever.
As the check presentation was taking place, other members of the staff were hard at work elsewhere in the building, packing the first shipment of care packages. Nikki Johnson, the OOIDA staffer in charge of assembling the packages, said truckers had provided twice the number of soldiers' names and addresses than the association has had in previous years, and that the first shipment may well serve more members of our military than any other sent as part of the three-year effort.
In back of Jim Johnston, you can see a small sample of the types of items being sent in the care packages. Also, on the wall in back, you can see a series of mementos provided to the association and its membership by members of the military as a thank-you for the care packages paid for by truckers' donations.

The big moment
OOIDA President and CEO Jim Johnston speaks to the association's staff during the official check presentation for the Truckers for Troops Telethon, as Reed Black records his comments for Land Line Now. The proceeds -- including the telethon, donations from sales of Leland Martins' CD "Truckers for Troops" and donations since the telethon ended -- totaled $61,973.00. That's a 14 percent increase over the previous year. (photo by Nikohle Ellis)

A Semi-Sized Storm
A trucker sent in this photo of an ice-covered truck today near Vinita, OK. The ice and snow storm has been moving along the I-40 corridor, and has spurred weather warnings throughout the South.Wednesday, January 27, 2010
A Man with a Mission
OOIDA member Dexter Brown stopped in at headquarters this week; he's shown here posing with Sherry Murry of Land Line Now. Right now, Dexter is part of the U.S. Air Force. Meanwhile, he plans to help OOIDA staffers prepare care packages for his fellow troops paid for by the OOIDA Truckers for Troops Telethon.
