The American Red Cross now offers a Tornado Warning and Alert app for smartphones. The app offers a number of information resources. For example, it will: show you the location of Red Cross shelters after a storm; offer instructions for creating your own storm emergency kit; and, most importantly, it will give you an audible siren that goes off whenever the National Weather Service or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issues a tornado warning – an alert that works even if the app is closed.
