We’ve often said that in contributing to Truckers for Troops, OOIDA members are not only helping our troops – they are often helping their own families.
Every single name and address we use to send the care packages your donations pay for comes from either an OOIDA member or staff member. They are often the sons, daughters, husbands or wives of truckers – our great, extended family.
It’s not surprising – after all, a significant portion of truckers are veterans of our armed forces themselves.
Here’s a letter from a member of the military who received a care package, and who talks about his own connections to trucking.
I am Technical Sergeant Kevin Foust, U.S. Air Force. I received a package from your organization the other day.
What a wonderful surprise!
I and my co-workers were so excited at all the great things in the shipment, including movies, socks (seriously appreciated), hot sauce (great for improving the flavor of those chow hall meals and rations), beef jerky and much more.
I am currently deployed in Afghanistan. I have a cousin who’s been driving trucks for 20 years. His father was also a career trucker, and my dad drove for a couple of years.
Needless to say, my family has a great respect for the men and women who keep our country moving, truck drivers. That respect has exponentially increased now that I know of the Truckers for Troops program and OOIDA.
In particular, my thanks to Mr. Roy Shultz of Orange Park, FL, who sent a letter in the package, as well as cards from a 3rd-grade school class. I will have to write him a personal letter of appreciation.
Again, my sincere thanks to all in the organization.
Very Respectully,
Kevin R. Foust, USAF
As we hear from members of our military who received care packages from OOIDA’s Truckers for Troops effort, we will share them with you on our Web site.
