TRACER alert on two stolen trucks

OOIDA’s TRACER system has issued an alert on two stolen trucks. A silver 2003 Peterbilt 379 with the name Carter Landscaping Inc. on the doors went missing in Elmore, AL. Meanwhile, a red 2007 Peterbilt 379 with PMI on the doors was stolen from the South Freeway Truck Stop in Houston, TX. A reward is offered.

Many states pursue increased speed limits

Reed Black discussed state legislation with Land Line Magazine’s Keith Goble. Statehouses across the country continue to push for higher speeds. Meanwhile, the Crescent City Connection tolls have been removed, and new funding is under review.

Public listening session on truck size and weight is set for May 29

The U.S. Department of Transportation has scheduled a public listening session to gather input for a study on truck size and weight issues. The agency is researching the effects of truck size and weight on highway safety; crash rates; pavement and bridge conditions; cost effectiveness; and efficiency. The DOT also seeks comments about “alternative truck configurations,” including longer combination vehicles, or LCVs, such as double or triple trailers. The listening session is scheduled from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time May 29th at U.S. DOT headquarters, 1200 New Jersey Ave. SE, Washington, DC.

TRACER alert on stolen tractor-trailer

OOIDA’s TRACER system has issued an alert on a stolen tractor-trailer. The blue and white 2000 Peterbilt conventional and 1996 white Utility trailer were stolen from North Kindall Avenue in Chicago. The name JR Ochoa Trucking Inc. is printed on both sides of the truck. A reward is offered.

Aussies use ‘water curtains’ to stop trucks

Reed Black reported that in Sydney, Australia they’ve come up with an unusual way to try to stop trucks with oversized loads from driving into the city’s low-clearance tunnels and causing damage. According to the Daily Mail, if sensors detect an oversized truck, a series of overhead nozzles at the tunnel entrance create a thin curtain of water. An image of a 10-foot-tall, brightly illuminated stop sign is then projected onto the water curtain. To see the curtain, click here. Air date: May 17, 2013.

South Dakota trucker receives OOIDA Safe Driving Award

Wayne H. Baker of Sioux Falls, SD, has been recognized by the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association for 55 years of safe, accident-free driving as part of the OOIDA Safe Driving Award Program.
