OOIDA Call to Action: Fight against ELDs

The fight against ELDs is not over. Congressmen Collin Peterson (MN) and Greg Gianforte (MT) have recently introduced HR 5948, the Small Carrier Electronic Logging Device Exemption Act. The legislation would exempt motor carriers that own or operate 10 or fewer trucks from the ELD mandate. We are now at a critical stage, when adding Congressional Cosponsors to the bill will help show support for small business truckers. Here's where we need your help. Please contact your Representative to cosponsor H.R. 5948 today! You can call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. Let your lawmaker know that:

Small-business truckers are paying the majority of the $2 billion in ELD costs without realizing any safety, economic, or productivity benefits.

FMCSA has failed to address a variety of issues associated with the mandate including several vendor-wide systems failures, faulty GPS tracking, engine disablements, speed irregularities, and many more.

Additionally, Congressmen Peterson and Gianforte have also introduced HR 5949, the Agricultural Business Electronic Logging Device Exemption Act. This bill would exempt most ag haulers from the ELD mandate.

Air date: June 11, 2018.
