Maryland announces tolling plan for new connector

Maryland has announced its plans for tolling on the Intercounty Connector, a new highway project that will run 18-miles from I-270 and 370 in Montgomery County to I-95 in Prince George’s County. Six-axle vehicles and up will pay between $1.88 and $2.63 per mile during peak hours, and between $1.50 and $2.25 per mile during off-peak hours. There are several upcoming public hearings on the subject, including Oct. 28 at High Point High School in Beltsville, MD, and Oct. 29 at Shady Grove Middle School in Gaithersburg. Tennessee Truck Show, St. Christopher Benefit coming up

Mark Reddig reported on the truck show, organized by OOIDA member and country music singer Joey Holiday, and his wife, Vicky Holiday. The show takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 9 and 10, at Fitzgerald Truck Sales, located at exit 311 on Interstate 40. In addition, the St. Christopher Golf Tourney takes place Oct. 9 at the Beatrace Golf Course at Cumberland in Crossville, TN. Golfers can meet at 7:30 a.m. at the Fitzgerald Truck Center, and will travel from there to the golf course. Tee time is 9 a.m.

Wisconsin wants to push cars off the highways

Officers lacked authority to enforce federal regs in Minnesota

A federal document indicates that for years, Minnesota enforcement personnel lacked the authority to enforce the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Mark Reddig discussed the situation with Jim Johnston, president and CEO of OOIDA, Todd Spencer, the association’s executive vice president, and Joe Rajkovacz, OOIDA’s regulatory affairs specialist. The association is trying to determine how many truckers may have been affected. If you have been put out of service or cited for any federal reg violation in Minnesota, we encourage you to either:

UCR Fee Increases Proposed

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is proposing to increase the Uniform Carrier Registration fees that truckers pay to support state traffic safety programs and US DOT officer training. If adopted, the UCR fee for small trucking operations would increase from $39 to $87. Fees for large fleets would increase by as much as $40,000 a year. New Hampshire sets public hearings on road, bridge proposals

OOIDA has issued a Call to Action to members and other truckers in New Hampshire. State transportation officials are asking for feedback from residents on several road and bridge proposals throughout the state. They will take place Sept. 16, to Oct. 29.

Jasmine Jordan Runs Across America

16-year-old Jasmine Jordan (daughter of OOIDA member Lee Jordan) took off on foot on Sept. 1 with the goal of running from Los Angeles to New York. The Minnesota native is dedicating the run to a family friend who recently died of cancer and is hoping to raise money for the St. Christopher’s Fund that helps struggling truckers pay their medical bills.

Wyoming's DOT wants to hear from truckers about tolling I-80

What? New York wants to say NO TRUCKS?

A 45-day public comment period is underway in New York, where transportation officials are proposing placing parts of seven highways in the Finger Lakes area off limits to all heavy trucks (except those making local pickups or deliveries). The comment period will end on October 9th.
