Cross-Border Trucking on Fast Track?

Jami Jones spoke to Todd Spencer about the Mexican Cross-Border Trucking issue. U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is making it clear that he hopes to have a new Mexican cross-border trucking operation in place by early summer. And while he has pledged to add safeguards that the original demonstration project didn’t have, few in Congress or the trucking industry think the necessary safeguards can be put in place in such a short time.

Congressman John Salazar and Congressman Jerry Moran have voted in the past to oppose opening our highways to Mexican trucks, but now seem to have changed their minds. Instead of pushing for a new Mexican truck program, why are the Congressmen not questioning the legality of Mexico’s retaliatory tariffs on U.S. exports?
