One state says no more split speeds while one state says "Give me more"
Reed Black discussed state legislation with Land Line Magazine’s Keith Goble. In Illinois, legislation to bring an end to split speed limits on rural, interstate highways is on the move. While in South Dakota, a new law is intended to help ease a shortage of available dollars for the state’s highway trust fund.

Operation Roger Transports Pets
After Hurricane Katrina displaced thousands of pets, Operation Roger was established to reunite pets with their owners (or help people adopt animals) by using volunteer truckers to transport pets to their old (or new) homes. Illinois may increase idling fines, lower registration surcharge

EPA Offers Grants for 'Clean Trucks'
The US Environmental Protection Agency is offering grants for the purchase of a new truck—if that truck is a hybrid or runs on an alternative fuel like liquefied natural gas. The new, ‘green’ trucks also qualify for tax credits of $6,000 to $12,000.

OOIDA has issued a Call to Action regarding two bills to end the split speed limit in Illinois - SB1467 and HB3956 – as well as a third bill, SB1434, that would end the commercial distribution fee charged to truckers there.

OOIDA Illinois Call to Action
OOIDA has issued a Call to Action for Illinois truckers. There are three bills at the Illinois statehouse that need immediate attention. Two of the bills, HB2664 and HB980, would eliminate the split speeds in Illinois while one bill, SB1467, would increase fines for idling violations as much as 500 percent. It is imperative that you contact the committees and voice your opinions on these bills.
