Dane County, WI Call to Action – OOIDA has issued a Call to Action. The Dane County Board could vote as early as Oct. 2 on an ordinance that would restrict idling on large trucks in the county. Residents can provide comments on the proposal during a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, in Room 201 of the City-County Building, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Madison, WI. Volunteers needed – Reed Black reported today that the Red Cross and the Salvation Army are seeking volunteer (unpaid) drivers to deliver disaster relief supplies to areas devastated by Hurricane Ike.

  • The Red Cross in Dallas needs 100 volunteers to drive 18- to 26-foot trucks. The trucks and fuel are provided. If interested, contact: Jim Wellington, Red Cross coordinator at 571-205-3218.
  • The Salvation Army’s Christie Sutton says the organization needs trucks and drivers to transport supplies to the area hit by Hurricane Ike. Salvation Army - Christie Sutton with the organization’s Disaster Services division said that the organization could use trucks and drivers to transport supplies to the area hit by Hurricane Ike. While the loads do not pay, the Salvation Army is able to reimburse truckers for the cost of fuel when they haul for the charity.
